防虫、抗酸化、調湿。
樅（モミ）が放出する天然物質フィトンチッドは、害虫を寄せ付けず腐敗を抑えるはたらきや、針葉樹特有の調湿効果などがあるとされ、古くからかまぼこ板をはじめ紅茶や素麺など食品関連の保存において有効活用されてきた。ほぼ無臭ともいえる木香により食品に移る樹木臭を感じにくい点も、樅が幅広く食品保存に活かされた所以と考えられている。

この樅の特性から「米びつ」を提案。ほぼ毎日使う米びつには、細やかなお悩みも多い。
この米びつでは、以下にポイントをおいたデザインを行った。

■最後のお米
カップで掬いきれない最後のお米粒を使い切る為に、米びつ自体をひっくり返すのではなく、内部の角に設置された受け皿を持ち上げるだけで最後の1粒まで取り出せる仕様とした。
最後の方のお米を、受け皿のある角に集めやすいように底板に設けた傾斜は、何度も試作を重ねて角度を設定。受け皿自体も底板に段差なく埋め込まれ、お米の集まりやすさを追求。
受け皿も、その内容積は一合としてあるため、計量の目安となる。

■外観
スッキリとした四角い箱はお米を入れると重くなり、意外とすべって持ちにくいこと、また底板に傾斜を設けている特長を外から見ても認識できる形にするため、「居合（いあい）切り」のスピード感で切られた直後のように、底部を少しずらした形状に。指先の引っ掛かりができるとともに、特長的なアクセントとなった。

■フタのスライド
キッチンでは、手に水や食品が付いていることも。フタの開閉は持ち手をつかむ方法ではなく、指一本でも操作できるスライド仕様に。
またスライドのガイドとなる溝は、お手入れしやすいよう凹凸を無くし、1辺の傾斜で支持できる形状を採用。これにより摩擦面も減らし、快適な開閉が可能になった。

■サイズ感
本体の高さは、キッチン下の引出しにも収まりやすい19cmに設定。幅と奥行きも扱いやすいサイズバランスを追求。

■一合升（マス）
米びつに出し入れしやすい長方形の一合升。お米を掬いやすいように、小口部分（マスのフチ）が薄くなるよう傾斜を設けた設計に。一杯で一合、傾斜が始まる部分までで半合の量となる。

Phytoncide is a natural substance produced by fir trees that drives away pests and prevents decay. For this reason, fir trees have long been used to preserve food products (also because of their humidity control properties unique to older coniferous trees). Furthermore, fir trees have been used widely for preserving food due to their odorless tree property.
The Rice Container with a Corner Saucer contains a saucer in the corner of the interior. When there is little rice left, you can gather the rice in the corner without wasting any and without lifting the heavy rice container. We made many prototypes to complete the slope on the container so that rice could easily be gathered in the corner. The design features the characteristics of fir trees as a material and innovations specialized for rice containers.

・The whole upper lid can be removed for easy cleaning and rice refilling.
・Also, the sliding door rails are shallow for easy wiping and cleaning.
・The rice container stands at approx. 19cm tall and can fit in most standard system kitchen drawers.
・The attached Ichigo-masu (a cup for measuring rice) is rectangular in shape, matching the lid opening, making it easy to scoop the rice.
・The fir tree material hasn’t been painted over to fully utilize the features of fir trees.
